FISHING WITH TORCH KITS

Pastor J Prabhudas knew nothing about audiovisual ministry when he first wrote us in late 1994. 10 years later, he has taken the ministry of AVangelism (Audio Visual Evangelism) through southeastern

J Pradhudas traveling with his bicycle

India’s Andhra Pradesh State. 43,500 people have witnessed the Good News of Jesus Christ with 2,300 receiving eternal life.

Initially Pastor Prabhudas was only asking for financial support to assist his group of 5 pastors, working together to raise up believers through village ministry. Although InterComm does not provide financial assistance, we did suggest we might be able to help his evangelism ministry. He wrote:

"We are praising the Lord for your reply and willingness to shower God’s grace on our ministry. We really need your help for the evangelism ministry. We are very poor and travel everywhere by bicycle and cannot afford expensive media equipment."

So we offered him our Torch Kit, and he wrote:

"My co-laborers and myself appreciate your offer. So many people here would love to have large-screen pictures. The best media to use would be Christian Filmstrips. We will arrange special programs in all of our village ministry sites. May our God bring many fishes to this hook of a Projector."

All  are attracted to these pictures!

The Torch finally arrived in late 1995. "Thank you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. For me, this is the first time in my life to receive any ministry help from abroad. How we praise the Lord. Actually the Torch appears quite small, but we know the results will be great when we tell the stories in our Telugu Language. Many people, young, old, men, women, and children, are all attracted to these pictures."

In the year prior to receiving the Torch Kit, Evangelist Prabhudas shared that they had seen 36 people come to Christ. In the next 6 years, the Torch helped bring an average of 382 people per year to Christ, a 1000% increase through AVangelism. Praise the Lord!

They feed the hungry body.

They appeal to the hungry soul.

Many new churches have now been established. "So many people want to see our Filmstrips. Recently a bank officer, some drunks, gamblers, and even thieves have been saved by the Lord Jesus. How exciting to hear them testify to God’s goodness. My Torch Kit as I travel is like a good friend in need. What an encouragement. My wife is often ill and my son also. Please pray for us. More than 100 people here pray for InterComm, and each of your Language Recording Projects, as you keep us informed. We are so grateful to you for the fellowship we have with you through media ministry and our mutual letters."

Our letters have covered floods, his wife’s illnesses, his being struck from his bicycle by a lorry (truck), and his broken bones. Each time we prayed with him and asked our prayer partners to remember him also.

In Evangelist Prabhudas’ world they literally live hand to mouth. Yet, our great God loves them and meets their needs. Will you please pray that God will continue to encourage great friends of the faith like Evangelist Prabhudas.

SOMETHING TO DO WITH EVERYBODY

Rev Justin Martin Manguriko from Brazzaville, Congo writes:

"This small Torch Projector has been a great instrument for communicating the Gospel alive in the stories and images projected to the people. At the beginning, it was seen as ministry for children and Sunday school. Nowadays, it has something to do with everybody, including Muslims. The living presence of the Word of God in a story form is attracting many people and many outside of the city are asking for it. Please pray with us, as we take this tool to the rural areas, even outside our borders, that God will bring a harvest to His work."

Showings to 904 people with 123 accepting Christ.

SPIRITUAL INVESTMENT

Mr Edet Offong from Bangui, Central African Republic writes:

"We bless the Lord for 2 months showings of the Torch Kit and videos in our different districts. Any time we show the film, PATMOS, people cry when they see how Christians are persecuted. The same reaction goes for PILGRIM’S PROGRESS when they see Christ on the cross. Thank you for your material and spirit investment for the salvation of souls. God bless you for this ministry."

Showings to 18,593 with 2,064 accepting Christ.

SLEEPLESS NIGHTS

Mr Yomah Manasseth En-Mba of Arua, Uganda writes:

"Our showings were really good with the Torch Kit, but we need your constant prayer, because we are operating in primarily Muslim areas. There are also rebel activities, and we face robbers nearly every night. On a recent tour we spent sleepless nights, as there were attempts to rob us, except by God’s great arm of protection we were safe. The robbers think that I make money, but I tell them, no, I only preach Jesus Christ as their Savior. Some accept and understand. Others do not. Indeed your prayers for our health and safety are appreciated."

Showings to 1,041 with 89 accepting Christ.

HEARTBEAT

by Ken Anderson

Shortly after driving out of the old city of Jerusalem through the Damascus Gate, Nahum dropped me off at the entrance to the Garden Tomb. I have numerous precious memories from that place I’d like to

share with you. First it served as the headquarters for 2 of our film productions, SOUND OF THE TRUMPET and STRANGERS FROM GALILEE.

Mr & Mrs Solomon Mattar at the Garden Tomb

Prior to that, I had enjoyed a lasting friendship with Solomon Mattar, who for years was the caretaker of the Garden Tomb. Solomon and his family visited our home in America, and we, in turn, enjoyed the hospitality of his bungalow, staying in a little guest cottage inside the Garden overlooking the Tomb. On one occasion, when Lane was with me, he took us to a very private place in the Garden, seldom if ever

seen by visitors. At Solomon’s invitation, Lane descended with a flashlight down a rusty iron ladder leading to the bottom of a centuries old dry cistern. Calling down from above, he encouraged Lane where to shine the light in order to read the drawings on the walls, indicating clearly early church Christians had held secret worship in that old underground haven.

On another trip, Mrs. A was with me in Jerusalem, and we rode with Solomon Mattar on his way to the grocery store. He casually pointed off to a branch road, leading away into the country and stated, "It is said that’s the Road to Emmaus." He couldn’t have known how valuable this information was to Mrs. A, because from Sunday school on

Lane Anderson - 1963

through her adult church experience, she attended a little country church near Funk, Nebraska known

as Emmaus Evangelical Free Church. Countless visiting speakers would choose to preach on Luke 24:13-33, each certain they had been so clever and appropriate.

Most early mornings I would exit the cottage and quietly walk down to the Tomb by myself. One such morning, just over 46 years ago, I was alone as I sat in the empty Garden Tomb and wrote these words inside my red YFC Bible, "Inscribed at dawn, February 16, 1958, while sitting in the Garden Tomb, Jerusalem, believed by eminent scholars to be of a truth ‘The Place Where the Lord Lay’. Signed Ken Anderson, John 3:30"

Precious memories.

On The Road to Emmaus

"Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him." - Luke 24:13-16
