NOT EVEN A CYCLONE

"Joseph Dasari "

The motivation of an equipped AVangelist might be measured many ways. A large ministry might send many pictures or bombard us with impressive Reports and multiple emails. Some, however, such as Mr. Joseph Dasari of Andhra Pradesh, India, just quietly proceed in ministry, yet, always deliver consistent results.

As Team Leader for Gospel Teacher’s Team for Children, Joseph contacted us in early 2001. “We recently happened to see one of your Torch Kit showings in our area, and it has attracted us very much. We think this would make one of the best methods to help spread the Gospel. We are serving the Lord by ministering among children, and the Torch Kit would help us do more outreach work for children and also uneducated people in the slum areas.”

"Children Won to Christ from Joseph Dasari's Torch Kit Ministry"

Although it took Joseph more than a year to get back in touch with us, we were quickly able to dispatch his first Torch Kit by April of 2002. Ever since he has become a faithful correspondent. Later his first Report arrived, covering July through December showings to 878 persons. “This Kit is very useful to children and also adults. By this media we are reaching people so much easier.” His Report indicated over 500 decisions for Christ. He is fortunate to live in a State of India where the Gospel is more readily accepted. “We are doing miraculous work by means of what you have sent us. The Torch Kit brings showers of blessings in the lives of the children and adults previously unaware of Jesus Christ. I am overjoyed to share with you what God has done, as I send my Report. We now have over 1,000 children in our ministry programs who have accepted Christ through the Torch Kit. We were able to teach them how to live the Christian life. Kindly do remember us in your personal and public prayers that God will help us reach more children and more adults in the days to come.”

“Recently I saw a video you produced on the life of India’s famous Christian, Sadhu Sundar Singh. Would you be willing to add some videos to our ministry for further outreach? This is a new thought for my ministry.”

We have now sent 2 groups of videos, including many films produced in his country, but all in English. All until now, that is. The 6 Telugu Language videos, produced in his State last year have just recently been sent to him. Imagine how much better it will be to have these films literally speaking the words of his mother tongue.

"Joseph and His Parents in front of their Flood-Devastated Home"

Events in life can be devastating to these Christian leaders. Late in 2005, a massive cyclone almost completely destroyed his home. Although his family was spared, all their belongings, including the Torch Kit and videos, were lost. Praise God, however, these have all now been replaced. “ I am very thankful to the sponsor who provided my new Torch Kit. I congratulate you on your special help for the Kingdom of God through your useful Torch Kit.”

Joseph has faithfully submitted 9 Reports now, listing 121 showings to over 6,000 viewers. More than half have chosen to follow Christ. Yes, these are the numbers Joseph has reported, and as we always remind you, only God knows a man’s or a child’s heart.

MARCH 12 RECORDING SESSION

"Dr. Nora Laus"

The first line in the Ilongo Language of the people of Mindanao in the Philippines is expected to be recorded on Monday morning, March 12. After nearly a year’s worth of faithful preparation, Dr. Nora Laus and Pastor Ver Nallos will be leading the first stages of our Recording Session, which will see at least 4 films completed in the Ilongo Language and 2 films in Cebuano. Originally selected for Ilongo are PILGRIM’S PROGRESS, ELEPHANT BOY, HIDDEN ISLAND, and JONAH & THE BIG STORM. For Cebuano again PILGRIM’S PROGRESS has been selected along with HIDDEN ISLAND. Each group has chosen bonus recordings, time permitting. So we have a great need for your sustained prayer for all of us working at the recording table over the next 4 weeks. Please pray specifically for good health for Lane and Jill Anderson. Pray also for the Language and Drama Experts who are responsible to assure the highest quality work possible for all of these videos. Especially pray for each voice, as most of the individuals coming to record will never before have ever worked at a microphone. Most find the initial moments with us in the studio rather intimidating. So please pray that God will show us how to help them become comfortable and feel at ease.

Finally pray that the finished work will make it possible for hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people, to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ in these new languages and that through the hearing, the Holy Spirit may claim His own. Recording Sessions are scheduled for March 12 through April 8.

CONCENTRATE ON THE MESSAGE

Miss Irene Ranjore from India
shared:

“Vacation Bible school in many parts of our area occurs in June every year. We provided VBS to a small church with cement walls and a thatched roof. There we ministered to 70 children, ages 5 to 15, of which 75% were Hindus and Muslims, mostly belonging to low socio-economic families. Visual aids play a very important role in teaching these children. The Torch Kit was of great interest, in particular. We carefully selected titles such as THE CAT & THE CUSTARD and THE BLIND GIRL, as well as THE LIVING BOOK. The children listened with great interest and total attention. Afterward, we held a special session for counseling and prayers, and when the altar call was given, 25 of these children accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. The Torch Kit ministry is especially useful in helping children concentrate on the message. I can confirm that with Christ all things are possible.”

SUCH REMOTE PEOPLE

Miss Deevana Koyya from India shared:

“We rented an auto to take us to the village area called Garlagoyye. However, before we arrived, the automobile failed. We had to walk an additional 4 kilometers to reach the hill people where we wanted to minister in a place called Udatapalli. We met together with believers and Tribal people, as we crossed 3 hills, hand carrying our equipment and our luggage and a battery to run the Torch Projector. There were 15 people living in this remote location and they had never ever before seen such films as what we brought with us. They joyfully prepared a variety of food, which we shared with them. It was a new experience to eat some of these things they gave us. We truly thank God for the opportunity to reach such remote people. Our hardship was not in vain. 2 were saved after they watched the Torch Kit stories. These people were nearly naked. They don’t have proper clothes, and they don’t live in proper cottages. We were able to share some of our refreshments and items with them, and they felt so very happy and encouraged. We all returned home with great thanksgiving in our hearts to God. Our team has such a burden to reach this type of place where the darkness of Satan has captured people and forced them into worshiping idols. Please do pray for us and this ministry, as it goes forward.”

A Report accompanied this letter listing 21 showings to 1,270 people with 23 choosing to follow Jesus Christ.

INNOCENT VILLAGERS

Sita & Resham Ram from Nepal shared:

“The Torch Kit finally came through to us after such a long time traveling. This was a great surprise. We now have it with us in Kathmandu. It will be used for church planting ministries in very remote parts of our country. We looked at some of the Filmstrips and found the stories simple, yet informative, and they should be easily understood by the innocent uneducated villagers. This is a very good way to share the Gospel in remote places where there is a lack of technical equipment. We are praying and hope that this Torch Kit will be used to help many come to know the true Lord Jesus Christ. Please pray for this ministry, as we make plans to share Jesus Christ in the far corners of our country.”

FACILITATES FULFILLMENT

AVangelist Samuel Tachie-Menson from Ghana shared:

“I share your sentiments on the Torch Kit. We are very committed to its use in our ministry. In fact I prefer the Torch Kit to any of the other media tools, because one has complete control over the content of the message as well as the picture. Thus, it facilitates fulfillment of a pre-set objective. Our Report attests to our commitment to making greater use of this ministry tool.”

He submitted a Report with 9 showings to 4,033 people with 268 seeking Christ.

HEARTBEAT
by Ken Anderson

(For a period of time, InterComm will be sharing Heartbeats from the Ken Anderson Films era.)

“To be a true disciple of Jesus Christ is to be a channel, not a system!”

Those words were spoken by a Singapore doctor, a long time friend, and in the opinion of many, the city’s leading Christian layman. The thought had never come to me before, not in quite this concise an articulation. But isn’t it all too true? So many Christians become a “system” of standards, beliefs, methods, opinions - much of which may be good, even commendable, but the end result becomes a kind of stagnation. May God show us how to truly be “channels” through whom He can light the way for others, minister to those in need, and demonstrate how much He cares.
