ONE GOOD
EVANGELIST TELLS ANOTHER
|
|
| “Dr Ezekiel
Udoh (L) & Evangelist Henry Abi" |
We were literally
laboring in Nigeria, his country, when the unsolicited request for
aid arrived at our office. His letter sat in our email cache
awaiting our return from the 2003 Hausa Language Recording Project
being completed in Jos in the Central Plateau. “My wife and I are
mission directors with Africa for Christ Outreach. We are primarily
involved in rural evangelism and church planting. Kindly come over
to our Macedonia and help us (Acts 16:9)”.
Dr Ezekiel Udoh learned about InterComm while in Cameroon,
assisting Evangelist Henry Abi with an Evangelism Program in
February 2003. “Write them, Henry advised, they will surely help
you just as they have helped me.” It was ironic that we had met
Henry Abi through the recommendation of another Pastor in Cameroon.
It seems one good Evangelist tells another.
Our Torch Kit rated high on Dr. Udoh’s list of needs for his
mission, as the emphasis was on seeking the unreached in rural
areas. “Your letter is so timely, he wrote. “I am now
writing you from Singapore where I am attending the Haggai
Institute. Part of our training is on audiovisual evangelism. So I
now better understand the importance of AVangelism. Please do your
best to assist us.”
Four months later his package arrived, and he wrote, “In
Singapore I didn’t understand the individual lectures as well as I
wanted, but then your parcel arrived. As I began to go through the
Filmstrips and Videos, I clearly understood their importance.”
“The evangelism tools you sent us a few months ago have helped us
to reach out to so many souls, especially those in rural areas. I
will soon send you a comprehensive update.” What a joy to see
that he had shown media to over 4,000 persons as of the 1st
Report. “Since the arrival of InterComm Media Evangelism
tools my program has moved to a new level. We are seeing much
greater response. In fact InterComm is the only ministry to ever
support us since we started rural evangelism. Your tools have
helped me put into practice everything I was taught at the Haggai
Institute in Singapore. I must confess that your ministry has
encouraged me greatly.”
A two year gap followed a ministry move for him to southern Nigeria.
“I want to inform you that I am fully back with you. During this
time of silence your tools have been a great blessing to our
ministry, as we have used them in many towns and villages. Please
now send us the Hausa Language DVD’s you completed In our city of
Jos. We have friends who will be able to put these to evangelism
ministry usage in our country.”
“I just returned from a 2-week mission trip to rural areas of
Cameroon. We traveled by local boats, crossing rivers and fishing
ports, and visited 5 villages. We preached Christ, and many gave
their lives to the Lord.” And so the ministry moves forward,
always through the sacrificial lives of men like Dr. Ezekiel Udoh,
who loved the Lord so much he can’t wait to tell others about His
love. To date we have received Reports listing 130 showings to
14,962 people with 4,412 souls responding to the Gospel invitation.
Please make a special effort to help InterComm during these
challenging economic times to continue equipping men and women like
Dr Udoh for these kinds of exciting works of evangelism.
THE RUSSIAN CONNECTION
"Mr Maxim Maximov"
One wouldn’t
automatically anticipate a Russian Language Recording
Project taking place in the country of Kazakhstan, but
apparently that is exactly where it is likely InterComm will be
pursuing such a Project in the year 2010, Lord willing.
Thanks to the graciousness of Russ Doughten and Mustard Seed
International, one of the side blessings of traveling to
Nashville, Tennessee to receive the Seed Award for Film
Evangelism, was an opportunity to walk the display floor at the
National Religious Broadcasters Convention. It was on that floor
that we saw the booth for CNL, Russian Christian TV Network and
met Mr. Maxim Maximov, President and Founder. We had
actually had some correspondence with these Christians, who had
been struggling to present Christian television broadcast
ministry throughout the former Soviet Union. It seems that
Kazakhstan speaks a better quality Russian than might
typically be found in downtown Moscow. Apparently, the quality
is so good that most people come to Kazakhstan for Project
translation purposes.
We praise God for this connection, which we hope will further be
enhanced with a stop in Kazakhstan, as we pursue the Cambodian
Language Recording Project later this year, if God provides the
resources. Each trip is a stepping stone to the next Recording
Project, we hope, with much for us to learn in a country like
Kazakhstan where we never anticipated the privilege of
traveling. Keep tuned to the TORCH for developing details.
SRI LANKA DISTRIBUTION
Word has been
received from Priyantha Senapatiratne, Project Leader for
the Sinhala and Tamil Languages, that at least 100
video disks a month are being distributed this year to pastors
and evangelists around the country for ongoing AVangelism on
this troubled island. Please pray for the ongoing commitment of
Priyantha and others, who assist him in seeing this quality of
ministry continuity going forward.
NOT JUST FOR
CHILDREN
For many years, Evangelist
Sunday Owolabi has functioned as a Film Evangelist in his
country, Nigeria. A Film Evangelist technically is someone who
uses 16mm Films and travels from location to location,
projecting these stories in an attempt to share the Good News of
Jesus Christ. Recently, however, he asked to be equipped with a
Torch Kit, as it has become more and more difficult to find
readily accessible electricity in the village and urban parts of
his country. His team set a course for some seaside villages and
selected the Filmstrip Story, FAITH’S FAMILY, as their first
presentation. Unfortunately, a heavy thunder, lightning, and
rain storm occurred, and yet people from 3 nearby villages
waited and enjoyed the Filmstrip Presentation. 67 individuals
accepted Christ following that showing. The next day, the
same Filmstrip, another location, 215 people prayed to
receive Christ. Again, on a 3rd day at another location,
112 people, using the same drama story, FAITH’S FAMILY, accepted
Christ, following the Gospel presentation.
“Before I used to think of the Filmstrip or the Torch Kit as
just for children. Now, I have seen that both old and young
people, as well as children, will rush out in response to the
altar call and that God can bless this ministry tool and bring
people to Christ, even though it is a simpler audiovisual
presentation. I have seen that sinners are the same and that God
is using these Filmstrips to help viewers understand the message
clearly so that the response for the Gospel is the same as it is
for 16mm Films.”
SPANISH
VIDEOS IN CUBA
Rev
Rolando Diaz writes: “I want to express what a privilege
it is to have the opportunity of using the Spanish videos from
InterComm in 8 different locations over the last few months. Our
program has been extremely busy, but we have seen some great
results also. Just today a pastor, who lives close by, was
planning a special activity for children during his Sunday
school time. I loaned him the video, DOMBI, and he used it and
considered it a great blessing. 50 children responded to the
salvation message. Thank you so much for helping us with
your Spanish videos in ministry here in Cuba.”
A PILGRIM’S PROGRESS
by Lane Anderson
“Then the word of the Lord came through the prophet
Haggai.” These words from the Old Testament Prophet, Chapter 1,
verse 3, became the driving theme for a young evangelist God was
blessing in large-city arena evangelism. Our film production team
produced many documentary presentations for Christian organizations
throughout the Ken Anderson Films years, and in the summer of 1962
we traveled to the city of Baltimore where a young Evangelist, John
Haggai, was holding such a venue.
Needing a promotional tool to share with leaders of other great
cities, looking for such outreach events, our film team carefully
chronicled the unfolding real-life drama occurring on a daily basis.
A highlight that week for a 16-year-old crew member was press day at
the world famous Baltimore Colts Training Camp. There I met Johnny
Unitas, arguably the greatest quarterback of all time. Even more
exciting to me was meeting Raymond Berry. Unitas to Berry was
repeated so often by broadcasters, it became one of the games most
respected duos. More important to me and to the disgust of Unitas,
Raymond Berry was a born-again Christian. Humble, yet confident in
his faith, and an outstanding all-pro receiver as well as was Don
Schnick, the all-pro Christian linebacker.
How could we know then that back at the arena God was refining a
talented young man, who one day would impact the world in ways
Unitas, Berry, or Schnick could never imagine. As these sports
legends eventually faded into the Hall of Fame, John Haggai was
being prepared by God, not to replace Billy Graham in the arena but
to raise up and train Evangelists from all over the world.
God directed John to drop the USA vision and to establish the Haggai
Institute in Singapore in the early 70's. Session by session
scholarships were given to 40 to 60 leaders from developing nations
- all coming together to hone their skills in the latest methods of
reaching men - women - and children for Christ. Each returning home
thereafter to share and train at least 20 or more to do the same in
their own country. More often than not part of that training
included Media Classes led by Ken Anderson, who soon invented the
word AVangelism - Audio Visual Evangelism.
True enough I could not even dimly see the future God was writing
that week in Baltimore. But the path was open regardless to a
partnership which endures to this day, as these leaders, now in the
multitude of thousands, seek and are equipped with appropriate media
to help them pursue their vision for bringing Christ to their
nations.
