PHENOMENAL PHILIPPINES

"llongo Language Voice Choir for PILGRIM'S PROGRESS"

It’s exciting to report complete success at the end of an overseas recording project, and God certainly provided this reality in Koronadal City on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. We were surrounded by a host of faithful Christian leaders, who labored nearly one year to be prepared for our arrival and Recording Project. 54% of the set budget for the Philippines Project had been provided, and this was sufficient for us to travel and cover all the costs for the promised Recording Sessions. Traveling on a partial budget is not unusual, for InterComm has likewise traveled on similar percentages for Projects over the last 16 years. Yes, we have successfully completed everything set out before us. And more!

"Olive & Richard Dangallo, Translators and Various Voices in llongo"

Normally 5 films are promised for any given Project. We had agreed in advance that we would complete 4 films in the Ilongo Language and 2 films in the Cebuano (Visaya). Superb preparation on the part of Dr Nora Laus and Pastor Ver Nallos and those working under their leadership not only made it possible to complete those 6 films, but 2 bonus recordings in the Ilongo Language as well. With a little over 45% of the budget not in hand, it puts a great strain on InterComm to be able to finish the editing and return the masters to our friends in the Philippines so they might begin the distribution process (Editor’s Note: Please read PRAYER ALERT). Editing has already begun on their first film to be returned Ilongo PILGRIM’S PROGRESS. As soon as it is completed, we will keep our word and return not just PILGRIM’S PROGRESS, but one by one all of the other films to initiate their ministry. As Pastor Nallos reminded us late one Friday, “These finished films will be like fishing nets, bringing in lost souls. Likewise, with tears in his eyes, Pastor Richard Dangallo shared how the children’s films selected are going to have a huge impact on future generations of Filipino children, a ministry to which he has given a great portion of his life.

"Pastor Daniel Aguipo, Pastor, Taxi Driver, voice of Apollyon in 2 Languages, and great basketball player!"

"Taxi, Anyone?"

"Our work place 8 hours a day, 6 days a week, DXKI or Dixieland. As we called it."

Working daily out of the Radio Studios of DXKI, a place we called Dixieland, God provided one by one capable amateur voices that quickly became the equal to any professionals one could train anywhere in the world. How beautiful it is to watch God’s servants blossom behind the microphone and gain confidence in the process of giving their voice so others might hear the Good News of Jesus Christ in their heart languages - Ilongo and Cebuano.

"Project Coordinator, Venj Firmalino overseeing Cebuano Language Team"

We were daily blessed working with a contingent of pastors, including Pastor Ver, Daniel, Richard, Venj, Alex, Mario, and Chris, as well as many of their wives including Ida, Olive, Evelyn, and Bing, along with Jun, the very capable Voice Choir director and drama coach, and Joy, the DXKI Radio personality. 1,300 lines of dialogue and narration were recorded one at a time.

Will you please join with us and pray for God’s blessing upon the editing as it goes forward over the next many months. Pray for the 45% of the budget that has not been supplied and what God might allow you to do to fill in such large gaps. Pray for the distribution of the finished Ilongo and Cebuano, as each film is returned to begin its ministry. And pray for the harvest not only throughout the Philippines but many other corners of the world where these language group peoples have formed communities and may yet be reached with the Good News of Jesus Christ. It was an honor and great privilege for us to work with these saints on a daily basis for one month, helping them accomplish a dream of securing new materials in their often overlooked languages where printed and media resources have been sparsely provided to assist them in their ministry vision.

If you did not receive the weekly updates sent from the Philippines and would like to read them, please let us know. We can send either by email or letter mail.

PRAYER ALERT

Would you please covenant together with us, as we seek God’s provision for our financial needs in the months ahead. Having entered 2007 with the knowledge of financial shortfalls, we are now seeing some significant deductions in some of our church supports. We have yet to raise 45% of the budget set for the Philippines Language Recording Project, soon we will need to begin raising the budget for the 2008 Project proposed in Vietnam (more details in June TORCH), and as most of you know US Postal Rates have significantly increased with our international letter rate moving from $.84 to $.90. Traditional package surface mail is being eliminated moving all international packages into a higher air parcel category, which will have a significant impact on InterComm’s ability to provide National Christian Leaders with the tools they request. Although InterComm has been greatly blessed to have sufficient resources to cover monthly overhead costs, we are dramatically behind our capability of sustaining monthly salary needs. If you are in a position to increase your giving to InterComm, it would be a wonderful blessing to us at this time. If your church is in a position to increase its monthly commitment or to begin a monthly commitment with InterComm, this would be greatly helpful and encouraging as well. Should any of you have the opportunity to open a door to Christian Foundations, who might provide helps to ministries such as InterComm, such personal introduction is known to make all the difference in this type of giving being provided. Won’t you please pray how God might use you to assist this ministry in accomplishing its worldwide vision of equipping National Christian Leaders with appropriate media to help them win their countries for Jesus Christ. We need you today more than ever!

HAUSA VIDEOS, THEY'RE A HIT

Evangelist George Janvier
from Jos, Nigeria writes:

“Your films are a huge hit. Overall the 5 films are a huge help to us. These Hausa Language dramas are in great demand, and we are receiving many requests for them. Our seminary teams are starting to use them regularly, and satellite centers as well, where we do evangelism work, are seeing great results. We just can’t thank you enough for these valuable tools. Although we have 8 teams using the Hausa Language media at this time, the Report given only represents 1 of the teams. Imagine what is being done if the data was available for all 8. Thank you so much for these tools.:

He reported 14 showings, to 3,630 people with 236 decisions for Christ.

TRANSFORMING LIVES

Evangelist Jacob Maigida (a major voice in the Hausa Recording Project) from Jos, Nigeria writes:

“I traveled 1 hour from Jos City and held a Crusade in a village church. We had a wonderful ministry, including the showing of PILGRIM’S PROGRESS in the Hausa Language. What a wonderful tool for outreach and ministry this has been along with the other Hausa Films. PILGRIM’S PROGRESS is transforming lives radically. Over 100 people came forward for prayer, re-dedication, commitment, and confession. Pray that the good Lord will keep them in the faith in spite of the opposition from the enemy. Many more outreaches and revivals are planned, and we expect many more lives to be touched and radically changed. It’s exciting, and we believe Heaven is even more happy than we are.”

HEARTBEAT
by Ken Anderson

(For a period of time, InterComm will be sharing Heartbeats from the Ken Anderson Films era.)

This HEARTBEAT, taken from April 1983's newsletter to the Ken Anderson Films Distributors, uniquely touches on realities faced 24 years later, as Lane and Jill have just completed a Language Recording Project in the same region. There are still rebels. Many areas remain dangerous and spirit worship remains a big challenge among the non-Muslim peoples that also populate the highlands today.

“Two guys, one named Bob, the other Wendell.

Modern pioneers, these 2 men - bringing the Gospel into the remote highlands of the island of Mindanao in the Philippines.

Rebel renegades, intent upon overthrowing the government, roam the hills, often taking entire villages into subjection.

I spent hours-to-be-remembered with Bob and Wendell, listening in amazement to their tales of spiritual adventure. Spirit worship thrives among the tribes, and both have witnessed awesome visible manifestations of this power. Bob was physically attacked one night by a demon.

These guys live at subsistence level, just as do their neighbors, a frugal and inconvenient lifestyle to the extreme.

Yet, it has been a long time since I have seen such a sense of fulfillment, of excitement and purpose.

How can we relate this kind of 21st Century discipleship in a world ensnared by complacency and sparse challenges here in the West?”
