30
years after Ceylon won its independence from Great Britain, Ken
Anderson Films produced ELEPHANT BOY. Since then, ELEPHANT BOY has
traveled the world, capturing the hearts of children and adults
wherever it’s been presented.
Once InterComm had been initiated and
Language Recording Projects began to be scheduled in key countries
and languages around the world, we saw ELEPHANT BOY selected by
Committees in Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan.
With each
new recording, it was as though God whispered in the back of our
ears, "Someday Sri Lanka".
With that bit of history, we are excited to
report that a Committee eagerly gathered in Colombo, Sri Lanka’s
capital city, with Lane and Jill Anderson to discuss a potential
Project in the Sinhala Language. They were not, however,
prepared for the depth of commitment these enthusiastic participants
exhibited. To a member they had decided in advance a Project would
most definitely go forward.

As a matter of fact,
following Sunday worship, Evangelist Priyantha Senapatiratne urged
Lane to look at the folder on the front seat of his van. Inside was
the script for JOURNEY TO THE SKY, completely translated into the
Sinhala Language 3 years previous. He shared that he had been
praying that one day God would make it possible for that powerful
story of India’s most famous Christian, and other Christian films,
to be recorded into their Language. God was allowing us to answer
that prayer right on the spot.
Evangelist Priyantha Senapatiratne was selected Project
Coordinator, and Father Laksman Peiris, Chairman. Priyantha later
confided to us how excited he was that Father Peiris had been chosen
Chairman, because, "When he gets involved, things get done."
The next day we met to preview videos that might be chosen for
ministry by the Committee. 1st choice was ELEPHANT BOY,
followed by JOURNEY TO THE SKY,
PILGRIM’S PROGRESS, and the animation story, SPACE SHUTTLE JOURNEY.
The final title is yet to be confirmed. Script translation
assignments are underway.
Now InterComm has the privilege of asking God’s people to
underwrite this Project. Dozens of Proposals will be going out to
individuals, missions’ committees, and foundations, all of whom have
shown interest in this kind of work in the past. Please be in prayer
with us for God’s provision and His perfect time. Your prayerful
support and your participation otherwise will be greatly appreciated
85 YEAR OLD FORMER
BUDDHIST MONK
In August 2001, we shared the exciting story of how Pastor
Myint Nwe of Yangon, Myanmar had had the privilege of leading
this elderly monk to a personal knowledge of Jesus Christ, after the
Monk had watched 2 of the Burmese Language videos over and over and
over.
Rev. Nwe just wrote:
"The 85 year old monk has now deceased, but according to his
sharing and testimonies to the people after he was converted many
villagers accepted Jesus as their personal Savior, were transformed,
and baptized. He leaves behind in his village a worshiping church,
well established. This former Buddhist monk’s disciples have now
become church leaders in that village. Praise the Lord! This is some
of the fruit of InterComm Audiovisual Ministry here in Myanmar.
Thank you for your prayers for this work."
God’s
grace is an awesome reality for eternity in the life of U Nandi
Ya. Even though it took 85 years before the Gospel was clearly
presented so that he might see, hear, and receive. Won’t it be
exciting to embrace this man of God when we get to Heaven.
Dr Stephen Yohanna
writes:
"There was great rejoicing by the Committee
when they learned SLIPPERY PATH was here. Everyone said so soon.
We had the privilege to view it together, and everyone agreed the
work was superbly done. Most said that the sound quality was
superior to the original English version. What amazed most of us was
the perfect lip sync job. Let me be the first in the team to say a
big Well done, InterComm, before the Master Himself offers
those words. The work was excellent. I’m looking forward to
receiving PILGRIM’S PROGRESS."
Editor’s Note: PILGRIM’S PROGRESS in Hausa
was shipped to him May 23.

HEARTBEAT
by Ken Anderson
(Part 3 of a series)
The Dalai Lama, the world’s
foremost Buddhist leader, finally departed Beijing to a fanfare of
phony protocol. Upon return to Lhasa he rarely appeared in public.
As a rule, Tibetans stayed out of sight, leaving the streets empty,
except for occupying troops.
Official telegrams sallied
back and forth between Lhasa and Beijing. European and Asian
journalists waited for some kind of story to break. Finally the
enemy soldiers tightened their grip on Lhasa, keeping a special
watch on his residence. Dressed in peasant garb, the Dalai Lama
exited his palace and walked past dozens of soldiers. Walking out of
Lhasa onto a country road, leading upward out of the valley, he
reached a waiting motor car.
The next morning, their
patience exhausted, troops stormed the Potala, searching every room,
but finding no sign of the escaped leader. He crossed the Himalayan
range without incident and reached Dharmsala, which has been his
headquarters ever since. Large numbers of Tibetans also followed
their leader to northern India.
A British missionary, Dr. Geoffrey Lehman, had
built a hospital years before in the same location. An eye doctor,
he was burdened to raise the banner for missions. Together we
produced the film, TASHI FROM TIBET, the story of a young man,
fleeing Tibet, with his family. After his eyes were damaged by an
enemy aerial attack, Tashi was brought to the doctor’s care. Not
only was his sight restored, but he heard the Good News of Jesus
Christ for the first time. In seeking the Light of Truth, Tashi had
followed the Buddhist religion, but this could only lead to eternal
darkness. God’s Truth finally emerged in his life.
A few years ago, we had the honor of
recording a Tibetan Language track for TASHI FROM TIBET and today
this film ministers to hungry hearts, seeking that true light. They
are meeting Jesus Christ, even today, in Lhasa, Tibet.
