THE OPEN DOOR TO VIETNAM
|
|
| "Viewing
Video Selections" |
As the last helicopter lifted
from the roof of the American Embassy that fateful day in 1976, the
church of Jesus Christ in South Vietnam undoubtedly faced its
darkest days. Quickly - religious freedoms ended, church doors were
bolted shut, turned into Communist Meeting Halls or desecrated, as
some became barns for livestock. Pastors, who had not fled their
congregations, would over the next 20 years disappear or, if allowed
to live, likely spend more than 1 sentence in re-education camps,
usually 2-year terms. The church went underground. Home churches
flourished. The Body of Christ, tested by fire, met that test, as
individuals discovered faith in their daily existence. With
virtually all contact lost to the outside world, God’s work under
Communism went forward. Much like what we have learned from Chinese
Christians, our Vietnamese brothers and sisters in Christ learned to
stand firm in their walk with the Lord. The church shuddered,
re-grouped, and ultimately grew. Certainly some, through fear, left
the church. Others, however, saw their life with Christ defined and
made deep commitments to service. Commitments, which today, are
leading a surge of new younger seekers into a life of faith in
Christ, as the steel grip of Communism has begun to lighten.
In July 1995, Vietnam joined ASEAN, the Association of Southeast
Asian Nations. Certain compromises were necessary. Some religious
restrictions and human rights issues were addressed. Travel and
trade were at stake. The church began to re-emerge. Even today Hanoi
is beginning to return church buildings, although very slowly, to
original owners. A new day of ministry opportunity has emerged.
Perhaps 5 years ago InterComm began to connect again with Vietnamese
pastors and Christian leaders. Equipping opportunities occurred, and
the work of AVangelism was initiated. We began to pray about a
possible future Vietnamese Language Recording Project. Contacts were
made, invitations received. In April, following a highly successful
Recording Session in the Philippines, Lane and Jill Anderson
traveled to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) and also Dalat to evaluate
possibilities. A small group came together, organized, selected
their choices for films to be recorded into Vietnamese and today
they are making progress on the first stages of the translation
process. Oh, how they need your prayer support, as do we.
"A Vietnamese Village Where Vietnamese Videos May One Day
Minister"
For now we will not be
identifying leaders. They are working towards an early February
2008 time slot. Will we be able to return when they are ready? A
Project Proposal will soon be completed and sent out to
individuals, churches, Christian businesses, and a few
Foundations. But can we remain viable until then? Monthly
resources continue to dwindle, even as bills remain current.
Salaries, however, are highly questionable, unless new
commitments can be received. God has allowed InterComm the
privilege of encouraging His Church all over the world. He never
fails, but He chooses to work through us as individuals. What
can you do to help InterComm to move forward? Please pray about
it. We need your help now.
PHILIPPINES UPDATE
The first 2 Ilongo
lip sync dubbed films have been edited and returned for
approval in Koronadal City.
PILGRIM’S PROGRESS was the first title completed and
returned, followed now by HIDDEN ISLAND, a film for
children and families. It’s always exciting to see the
finished edit, and then to return it to those who
faithfully made this recording work a possibility.
Do please continue to pray for God’s blessing upon these
tools, as they soon will begin their ministry of
evangelism throughout the Ilongo-speaking areas of the
Philippines.

TO GOD BE
THE GLORY
Rev Nelson
Usman from Benue, Nigeria writes:
“I began using a TV set and VCR, showing PILGRIM’S PROGRESS and
SLIPPERY PATH. Sins were confessed, people were healed,
salvation decisions were made, and Christians were revived. We
also began using the Torch Kit, having prayerfully selected
titles such as THE YOUNG HUNTER and THE JUDGE to show the
children and the youth. Many decisions for Christ were made in
large numbers. An area church organized a 4-day retreat for
children, and we showed THE CAT & THE CUSTARD to 130 with 30
decisions being made for Christ in that showing alone. On the
last day we showed MR GOODMAN & HIS GOLD, and it really brought
a great light to these people and helped in the overall vision
for ministry. God has allowed us 24 showings to 2,779 people in
which we saw 481 commit their lives to Jesus Christ through the
Torch Kit and Video Ministries. To God be the glory!
AVANGELISM FOUNDATION
Chaplain Eric Nyaga from Makutano, Kenya writes:
“In January 2005, I started showing videos in the town of
Makutano. Now God has given me a church there of not less than
30 people. Following one of our showings, a prostitute came
forward, saying she had been watching the videos. The Holy
Spirit had touched her heart, and she repented and accepted
Jesus Christ into her life. She is now a member of my church.
Please keep on providing audiovisual tools around the world.
They are reaching more people than any other way I have seen.
May God bless you, and may you not be tired or feel as though
you are not doing anything important. God is using you in a
dynamic manner. You may not see it just now, but today the
church here is all based on the AVangelism Foundation. I have
even seen people be healed after they watched the videos. I
praise God for the good work He has done for us here.”
Sent a Report of 28 showings, 1807 in the audiences, and 145
decisions salvation decisions.
DID NOT WORK WELL!
Worked Perfectly
Evangelist
Badjene Prince from Lome, Togo wrote:
“I am sending you this Report of our activities by email. If I
send it through post, it costs so much more, and I don’t have
any money. You sent me the Torch Kit and some videos, and I
received them here in July 2005. We started right away to use
them. First of all, in our Prayer Center here in the capital
city, Lome, but it did not work well. Our Evangelism Team
prayed, and we moved out and began a public evangelism program
in the villages. There it worked perfectly. Most of the villages
in Togo do not have electricity, which also means they don’t
watch television or even see projected Christian films. Isn’t it
marvelous to see what God is doing through this Torch Kit? In
the village of Kpegan, there is a population of 3,000 people. No
one there knows God. Over the next 2 nights, we showed them
Torch Filmstrips, which we translated into their local
languages, and in 2 day’s time 805 chose to receive Jesus as
their personal Savior. A new church was started, and 180
received water baptism. Later in the village of Yokele,
following 2 days ministry, 210 people received Jesus. In October
we went north of Lome 665 miles where we visited 4 villages. A
great miracle of repentance took place and over 2,000 people
accepted Jesus in these villages, including a Voodoo Priest. In
just over 6 months of this AVangelism Ministry, over 3,000
people have received Jesus as personal Savior. WOW!”
Sent a Report of 18 showings, 14,000 viewers, 3,145 salvation
decisions.

HEARTBEAT by Ken Anderson
(For a period of time, InterComm will be sharing Heartbeats from
the Ken Anderson Films era.)
“Seek first the Kingdom
of God. . .” Like many Christians, I thought of this in economic
terms. If I am someone nice to God, He will be nice to me. True.
Jesus did speak the words to his disciples, who were concerned about
well being and lifestyles, but of late “Seek First the Kingdom of
God. . .” has come to have deeper meaning. For the ultimate in
spiritual health, for knowing and doing the will of God, for
experiencing divine blessing upon one’s efforts, you need to make
the “Seek first. . .” principle relative to absolutely everything in
life. I think what it boils down to is living with a consciousness
of the eternal, recognizing that we do need feathers and nests, but,
in the total meaning of why we are here, we must recognize that
every moment is meant to be a significant fragment of eternity.
