THE EMPTY ENVELOPE

"Mrs Irene Ranjore using her InterComm Torch Kit."

“The lectures on Media Ministry I received at the Haggai Institute highlighted the importance of audiovisuals in modern-day evangelism. India is a country where many people, especially in large cities, spend much time watching television and movies. This is a crucial time for us Evangelists to get familiar with media while it is yet effective with both children and adults.”

"Mrs Ranjore and her Students."

This was how Miss Irene Ranjore of Chennai, India introduced herself to InterComm in mid-2004. Following our Letter of Introduction, we actually received from her an empty envelope. Realizing her intent, we responded with a detailed letter, telling her we wanted to encourage her ministry by informing her what InterComm could provide regardless of her lost letter.

“I was quite amused to know that you would even react positively to an empty envelope. This was truly a strange happening. So many people speak English in my city, could you please provide me with some Christian movies. I would also like to use the Torch Kit among the poor children, who will need stories in their own tongue. I thank you for all your prayers and your passion for turning the hearts of unsaved people to Jesus Christ.”

A November shipment arrived in March 2005. “All things work together for good to them that love God.” - Romans 8:28. Everything has arrived safely. We all prayed together, as a family, that every sacrifice you made to send the parcel will be utilized fully for God’s ministry. I will let you know all the progress.”

Irene started out with a bang. She quickly sent a Letter of Thanks for the Torch Kit Sponsor. Later she asked if she could call her ministry, InterComm India. Then in August we received a Report, indicating 25 souls had followed Christ. Exciting stuff.

Later, another Report came through, listing 2 showings to another 35 people, using the Torch Kit. We were off to the races. But at year’s end, she reached the age of 60. In India, this means mandatory retirement. We were excited for her, because we knew she wanted to serve the Lord full time, and we hope she is. Our problem, however, is our letters to Irene have gone unanswered since the end of 2005. Will we ever hear from Irene again? We hope so. But perhaps she has joined so many others who, once equipped, just drop out. It may be cultural. We are always saddened when it happens. Is the media being used? We believe, yes, it is in a high percentage of these situations. Yet, we may never again have the joy of sharing statistics with you from Irene’s ministry. So do pray for her and for the dozens like her, who will slip away from us this year. May their witness through AVangelism, however, remain strong.

VIETNAM PROJECT LEADERS VISITS INTERCOMM

Rarely does InterComm have the privilege of hosting one of our Language Recording Project Leaders. It has happened on a few occasions to our delight. But mostly, when we say goodbye to our hard-working Committees in each country, we do not expect to see them again on this side of eternity. Once in a while, however, we are blessed to have such a leader visit. In June, Miss Khiem Tran, our Project Coordinator for the superbly organized Vietnamese Project, visited. She had come to the USA to help out a young couple with a new baby. Eventually, she was able to visit family and friends, taking her from Maryland, to Florida, to Indiana, and finally to California. We had a wonderful time with her, showing her the midwest, taking her to a baseball game, where she experienced her first American hot dog, Lake Michigan, an art show, plus meeting various friends and supporters of the Project. An unexpected surprise, delight, and privilege.

COINCIDENCE OR MIRACLE?

Mrs. Flora Minas of Armenia writes:

“The DVD’s you sent have been a great blessing to us over here. What a coincidence or what a miracle that I chose to view your drama film, THE ENEMY, just the night before a very challenging confrontation, even though I did not even know what it was about, as I picked a DVD to watch. Your movie, dealing with demon possession, prepared me for a great experience the very next morning when I met a lady that was in demonic bondage. I truly blessed God that I had viewed this DVD. It helped me a great deal. Praise God! Please pray for us. A new law has just been enacted that only the Orthodox Church has the right to preach the Gospel to anyone. We know that Jesus, our Lord, will not be bound.”

SIMPLE YET POWERFUL

Rev Mirlobin V Gaa of the Philippines writes:

“We praise and thank God for InterComm Ministry. The films and videos are simple, yet powerful. Kids love to help with the narration themselves, using the Filmstrips. We have done so in our classroom presentations, and even our high school. The children really love THE CAT & THE CUSTARD Story. May God richly bless you.”

Rev Gaa submitted a Report of 11 showings to 288 with 156 accepting Christ.

BACKSLIDERS ARE RE-COMMITTING

Mrs Mercy A Sowah of Ghana writes:

“God is doing great things here through the use of InterComm Media Videos and the Torch Kit. Souls are being won for Christ and backsliders are re-committing their lives to Him. We are praying for you and your sponsors that God will continue to enlarge your ministry and bless your contributors.”

A Report of 22 showings to 674 people with 155 responding to Christ.

A PILGRIM’S PROGRESS
by Lane Anderson

Starting a new Christian film company from scratch was a huge faith step for Ken and Doris Anderson back in 1961. Money for production was scarce, and renting equipment was expensive. God’s answer often came through the Winona Lake connection. You see the Winona Lake Christian Assembly was still thriving at this time, and every summer dozens of ministries held Conferences, hundreds of missionaries, thousands of pastors, and Christian workers spent a week or two each summer at one or more such venues. Moody, for example, was a huge influx and WMBI maintained a radio booth above floor level of the famous Billy Sunday Tabernacle. Even a few mission organizations maintained offices in Winona during the summer time. This and the close proximity to Wheaton, Illinois, which was a nearby mission Center, opened the doors of great opportunity for a fledgling Ken Anderson Films. Dad was already well known as a successful film producer, just when mission organizations all over the country were taking the big leap from slide film missions presentations to 16mm film documentary productions. God gave Dad’s creative juices a kick-start, as one by one these groups began discussing such Projects.

Cautiously, at first, Dad would discuss their vision, and just at the right time he’d suggest, “You know, you could tell your documentary story in a full drama format. Not only would your own constituency be blessed with a new film from their mission fields, featuring your missionaries, but these same films would be viewed all over the country to our ever-growing rental distribution networks.” Some did. Some didn’t. As it was in the fall of 1963, we combined the modest budgets of 4 productions, and set out in early October for nearly 3 months. We would film THIRST FOR INK for Christian Literature Crusades, and ORIENTAL REFLECTIONS for The Evangelical Free Church. Both documentaries would cover field activities in Taiwan, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Thailand. We would also produce our very first Filmstrip, THE LIVING BOOK, in Pakistan with TEAM, formerly known as The Evangelical Alliance Mission. Finally, and most challenging, we would film the drama story, INHALE THE INCENSE, featuring missionaries and the mission field of Overseas Crusades. So park your bags, won’t you, and join cameraman, Dan Dunkelberger, my Dad, and me, as we move out on this exciting adventure, putting Psalm 37:5 into action.
