SOME COME RUNNING

"Evangelist Daniel Kulola."

Tanzania is located on the east coast of Central Africa, just south of neighboring Kenya, along the Indian Ocean. Operating out of the northeast corner of their country, Daniel and Mercy Kulola have actively and aggressively shared the Good News of Jesus Christ through Outreach Evangelism at least since 1993, working from their home base at Mwanza. In 1999, they were introduced to the concept of AVangelism, i.e. using various media in evangelism settings. It has completely revolutionized their ministry. Not only did they envision reaching new souls for Christ, but building these new converts in the faith also using AVangelism.

Daniel began to strategize village campaigns from 3 to 5 days in duration. Some time would be spent to encourage and build up the faith of local church members. The remaining time, then, with the help of these resources, they would reach out, as a team, to their own village and surrounding landowners. Months slowly passed, as we tried to connect with people traveling to Tanzania, who could hand carry the necessary equipment. Finally, everything made it through safely. All that is but one broken Projector Bulb, easily replaced.

“I have started to use the 16mm equipment,” Daniel wrote, “and it has blessed so many people. Some have come running to watch our films, and many are accepting Christ as Savior.”

Almost every letter from Daniel starts this way, “I was out for several days, preaching the Gospel.” Or, “I have just come back after a 5-day crusade. Many people have been saved.” What a joy to read such exciting news. Again later, “I was in 4 cities recently showing the cinema (film showings). The cinema ministry has been attracting thousands of people with much fruit for the Lord.”

Daniel has truly taken our helps to heart. “You are my brother, I feel free to say that. My wife and my father understand how I feel. I ask people to pray for you often. You and me, we are one.”

I never cease to be amazed with the Body of Christ. This man that I have yet to meet, except through correspondence, feels as close to me as a brother. Only the Holy Spirit can do such a thing, when men are separated by thousands of miles.

“Last week I went to minister to the bush, as we call it. The most remote places. We used the Torch Kit this time. It was wonderful!”

Over and over such notes of enthusiasm have come from Daniel. Although like so many around the world, he struggles getting us his actual Reports, we have learned through the end of 2004, he had held 268 film, video, or Torch showings to 85,032 souls with 9,014 individuals, giving their lives to Christ. Just imagine how many more may have sought the Lord this last 2 and ½ years. We soon hope he will get his Reports up to date. Regardless, Daniel Kulola serves as a highly motivated AVangelist, and we are so grateful to call him our brother in the faith. “The ministry of media is so powerful to the Third World like ours,” Daniel writes. “We need more technology to meet the needs of the cities, small towns, and villages, too.”

PHILIPPINES LANGUAGE RECORDING PROJECT UPDATE

Thank you for keeping the Editing and Equipping Phases of this Project in your prayers. We are pleased to report that the promised work has been completed and edited. This means 4 films in the Ilongo Language have been edited and mastered or sent for approval to the Philippines, along with 2 films in the Cebuano Language. These are the films originally promised to the Committee in Koronadal City, Mindanao. Work will begin now on the 2 bonus films in Ilongo.

Pastor Venj Firmalino, the Project Coordinator, commented on Cebuano PILGRIM’S PROGRESS, “Last night we viewed the Cebuano PILGRIM’S PROGRESS, and we are so amazed by the work. We are indeed blessed by the result. I hope I can share it immediately with the rest of the team.”
Thank you so much for your support of this Project! Pray now for the use of the tools, as they begin their work in the tribal areas and among Muslims. Pray for the teams protection and wisdom as they travel under difficult conditions and circumstances.

HAUSA LANGUAGE, NIGERIA

Although it is the goal of InterComm to feature National Christians primarily in the Newsletter, we would like to share the following insight from SIM Missionay, George Janvier. “The SIM Seminary operates 8 mission teams, which regularly spread out into northern Nigeria for ministry and evangelism opportunities. Your films are a huge hit and have been a great help to us. These Hausa language dramas are in great demand, and we are getting many requests for them. We just can’t thank you enough for these valuable tools.”

A Report from George listed 14 showings to 3,630 people with 236 decisions for Christ. That was just from 1 Team. The overall numbers from 8 teams easily could surpass showings to 29,000 people and as many as 2,000 coming to Christ.

“Thanks so much for your fantastic films in Hausa. They are having a good impact, which will turn into a great impact as we gain momentum with using them. One of our Seminary Missions Team was posted to an unreached Tribe in northeastern Nigeria, and they had 5 days in a row of Film Evangelism, using these new films. Let me assure you that the films are being used in outstanding evangelistic settings, and we are seeing much fruit. The African productions, THE CHARM and SLIPPERY PATH, are especially helpful and have been given 2 thumbs up by our African Film Evangelists. We could not have done this work without your help.”

PRAYER SUPPORT

Samuel Tachie-Menson from Ghana
writes:

“I really praise God for your partnership in ministry, to which you have given expression several times and in several ways. The best of all of these are the letters sent to inform us of your prayer support. Unsolicited as they are, these prayer backings give us a sense of worth and fulfillment. Better still, it is necessarily humbling and a catalyst to the realization that we constantly need the Lord’s grace and guidance. We will rejoice in the Lord, as we serve Him. He is the source of all of our provisions. Thank you for the extra Filmstrips and Spare Bulbs for the Torch Kit. With your regular prayer support, we hope to reach more souls this year. I marvel at the power of the simple Torch Kit stories, proving that the Gospel of Christ is the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes.”

He submitted a Report of 6 showings to 1,521 people with 212 accepting Christ.

OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND

Pastor David Klee from Ghana writes:

The following is from a letter written to Mr. Donald Leow, the Chinese AVangelism Instructor at Haggai Institute, primarily in Singapore.

“There is a saying that out of sight is out of mind. This I thought would have been the case with our group when you taught us in Singapore. Your have proved my thoughts to be completely wrong. After returning home, I received several emails from InterComm, based on your recommendation, and they were offering to donate a Projector to me. I did not believe this could be true. I finally decided to give it a try, and to my great surprise, I have finally now received a Torch Projector and a 16mm Film Projector from them. Little did I know that what you taught me at HI would some day come to be practiced until God worked through you. Forgive me for this weak faith and allow me to salute you a million times. God is touching lives by the use of these powerful AVangelism tools. As a matter of fact, since I left HI, my perception of ministry has changed drastically. I now minister in Muslim dominated areas directly to Muslim peoples. At the moment I am being trained in cross cultural ministry with heavy emphasis on Muslim evangelism. I praise God for your farsightedness. Probably you have not reached West Africa, but I tell you your powerful teaching has reached here, and as we give the credit to God, I believe a portion of it goes toward your crown that is being prepared by our Maker to be awarded to you on His day. May God richly bless you.”

SMALL TOOL OF MINISTRY

Dr Chandrakant Mhaske from India writes:

“The Torch Kit is the best media for me to use to spread the Word of God. We can shout Picture Story, and implement it completely ourselves whether we are in the village with electricity or not, we can still use the Torch Kit. It has become the best tool for ministry that I have ever had. It is very handy and small, but powerful and effective. Many people like the Torch Kit. They deeply appreciate it. I personally like this small tool of ministry, the Torch Kit. Thank you to InterComm.”

This came with a Report of 17 showings to 792 people with 230 decisions for Jesus Christ.

HEARTBEAT
by Ken Anderson

(For a period of time, InterComm will be sharing Heartbeats from the Ken Anderson Films era.)

Here’s a concept which might be helpful to you.

“Let us go from asking. . . to trusting. . .
and from trusting to resting.
Surely, this is the way of true discipleship.”

HEALTH PRAYER UPDATE

Thank you for your prayers for Ken D Anderson, InterComm’s Technical Director. He suffered a mild stroke last month, but there is no paralysis, and he is expected to make a full recovery. He has already come back to work part time, and we praise God for His watch care over him.
