We have a
policy here at InterComm carried over from our production and
distribution years at Ken Anderson Films from 1961 to 2000. Our film
productions do not belong to us. They belong to God! Through the
years, many people have asked to develop foreign language versions
of our productions such as PILGRIM’S PROGRESS. If not for these
visionaries, our Language List would be much shorter. Here is such a
story from Chiapas, the most southern State in Mexico.
In
early 2001, career missionaries, Vernon and Carla Sterk, contacted
us about the possibility of such work using PILGRIM’S PROGRESS to
reach the indigenous people they had served for over 30 years.
Connecting with fellow missionary, Peter Terrell, they decided to
use high quality video masters for the best result. Peter and his
family already had years of hands on experience dubbing various
films, so high quality finished work was assured. Although the work
took longer than anticipated, it was ready for a sneak preview July
8, 2001. “You should have seen the faces and heard the comments this
past Sunday when I showed PILGRIM’S PROGRESS for the first time in
the local Tzotzil Language. The group is from an isolated indigenous
church in the Mitontic Tribe. The people loved it. The meaning and
impact of the video is incredible, as they experience this great
story in their own language,” Peter wrote. 21 copies immediately
initiated ministry through local pastors. Of course, we seldom hear
how God blesses through Reports, but isn’t it exciting to trust God
in such matters. So great was the interest for Tzotzil PILGRIM Peter
produced 400 audio cassette copies, a very inexpensive process to
quickly expand the audio ministry potential. Imagine now nearly 500
media missionaries were in distribution. “We now have over 80 copies
of the video in distribution. This video has quickly become one of
the all time favorites of the Tzotzil Indians here in Chiapas,
Mexico.”
By November 2002, Peter’s son, Reece, transported
his recording gear to the Mexican jungles. His mission - the Ch’ol
Language version of PILGRIM’S PROGRESS. And for the icing on the
cake, Peter was nearly ready to record the Tzeltal dialect at the
home base. God was taking John Bunyan’s allegory to even smaller
groups of the Tzotzil peoples with their own unique
dialects.
Later, in October 2004, a Nahuati, Aztec version
was recorded. This now ministers to the largest non-Spanish Language
group in Mexico - 1.5 million souls. Over 2,000 gathered for its
World Premiere, and in a letter from Peter last year he shared,
“Distribution of all 4 languages has now surpassed 2500 copies.”
Just imagine how God is using these tools to populate Heaven. We
must fervently pray our Lord will continue to bless these efforts
for years to come. “These people soak up the Word of God like
sponges,” Peter shared. Films like PILGRIM’S PROGRESS in local
dialects help bring a deeper understanding to people’s
faith.

WHO WAS
THIS MAN,
KEN ANDERSON?
A Tribute by Doris Anderson
(Mrs.
A) - Part 2 of 3
I found myself
many times having to build up Ken’s self-confidence. I had found
this gem of a man, who was filled with talent, who needed and got a
lot of love and encouragement.
After 3 months, Ken was
speaking at a Missionary Ladies Aid Meeting at a neighboring church
when all of a sudden he turned pale and sat down. He was rushed to a
Minneapolis hospital where an intern, who was on duty at 2:00 am
sort of performed an appendectomy, which left Ken really unable to
regain the strength to stand up and preach.
The church even
asked me to lead the services and bring a devotional, which I did
for a couple of Sundays before admitting, “This isn’t working.” Ken
and I called my parents in Nebraska, and my Dad said, “We’re awfully
lonesome. So why don’t you come back here while Ken
recovers.”
So we drove our old Chevy (The one already worn
out by 3 pastors before us.) all the way to Nebraska with no
problems. Any other time we drove it, we had frequent flat tires and
motor trouble.
While still in Nebraska and when Ken was
stronger, the little country church of Emmaus (an American Sunday
School Union Church) asked him to give the Sunday morning messages,
because they had only visiting ministers.
Also while we were
staying with my parents, I heard Ken telling many interesting
stories. So one day I said, “Why don’t you write a book?” Shortly
after that, Ken submitted his 1st manuscript to Zondervan Publishing
House. MYSTERY AT PARKVIEW was published, even though it was so
poorly written we later referred to it as MISERY AT PARKVIEW. That
was the beginning of Ken’s career as a writer. He also began to
discover that he could write articles and stories for Sunday school
papers to make a little money. At least 76 more books and countless
articles would follow, the best known of all is WHERE TO FIND IT IN
THE BIBLE, which has sold over 4 million copies and is still widely
used.
Ken’s writing opened the door to become the 1st Editor
of Youth For Christ Magazine. Not long after that, Bob Pierce, who
later founded World Vision, invited Ken to go with him to China to
write a book, help preach to young people, and do some filming on a
Project he called CHINA CHALLENGE.
Leaving out many details
and skipping along, you can see that all of these events were not
leading us to the mission field, but God was directing us and
leading us to the ministry He had in mind for us. His ways are
higher than our ways, and His thoughts than our
thoughts.
Then out of the blue, Ken was asked to write a
script for Baptista Films, one of the pioneers in Christian films.
They liked what he wrote so much they asked him to direct the film.
He didn’t have much confidence, but when he asked what I thought, I
said, “Since you wrote the script, who would do a better job of
directing the film and putting your vision on the screen?” When they
began filming, Ken found out the young man behind the camera had
never handled a movie camera before.

INDONESIA
DISTRIBUTION EXPLOSION
Following the Telugu Language
Recording Project, Lane and Jill Anderson had the rare opportunity
to visit a previous recording site and those responsible for the
Project’s success. Project Director, Harry Widjaya, hosted a brief
visit to Jakarta, Indonesia in May this year, and while there
stunned Lane and Jill with incredible news. Rather than having
distributed 1,000 video disks of the films completed together in the
Bahasa Indonesia Language, Harry had personally been responsible for
distributing over 10,000 video disks throughout many of the islands
of Indonesia. Not only have 10,000 disks gone out, but television
opportunities have taken place where millions of people were given
the opportunity to see films like PILGRIM’S PROGRESS in the Bahasa
Indonesian Language. Additional television opportunities are in the
discussion stages and more disks will be going out in the months and
years ahead. Thank you for praying for this Project, which was
completed back in 2001. Do pray that these 10,000 missionaries, as
they are viewed all over the islands of Indonesia, might be used to
bring men, women, and children to Jesus
Christ.
RICH WITH
MESSAGE
Gladys and Douglas Jiveti from Kenya shared:
“We had just come from a meeting, a youth special seminar,
where we screened the African story, SLIPPERY PATH, and then opened
it up for discussion. It is awesome the power with which these films
are communicating to young people. The African stories are rich with
the message of Christ, and we thank you so much. Keep us in your
prayers.”
DELIVERED FROM
EVIL SPIRITS
Pastor PB Oluyide of Nigeria shared:
“We
really praise the Lord for the Torch Kit. It has helped us in
reaching people at their own level. We have a lot of testimonies,
following each of our shows, but recently a young lady of 20 years,
who had lost her father and mother, had fallen into occult
practices. Since her childhood she had become a prophetess. But
during the showing of the Christian Filmstrip, THE BROTHERS, she
gave her life to the Lord, and she was delivered from the evil
spirits. We praise the Lord for the media. More Evangelists are to
be trained to make the work of evangelism spread and move more
effectively.”
He reported 15 showings to 2,555 people, 443
salvation decisions.
