HEART OF THE HIMALAYAS
Shekhar Nath Paudel
is a man of his word. Now as a Christian publisher in
Nepal, he could be called a man of many words. Born in
the shadows of the great Himalayas, featuring Mount
Everest, Shekhar was raised in a Hindu family. Most
people in Nepal likewise are Hindu. Nepal is the only
official Hindu Kingdom in the world. Temples and signs of
worship abound. Yet, Shekhar found Jesus Christ, and
ultimately his family turned their backs on him and his
religion.
We met Shekhar following his evangelism
training at the Haggai Institute. He jumped at the chance
to use Hindi Language video and the Torch Kit, even
duplicating videos for other ministry friends. A first
media report indicated 157 decisions for Christ.
With his offer of free Hindi video
copies, the Nepali Campus Crusade Teams greatly expanded
their video outreach ministry. Likewise, many other
ministries have been blessed because of his vision. Only
in recent years has there been official religious freedom
in Nepal. Shekhar took advantage of this so-called
freedom by publishing a quarterly magazine,
called SPIRITUAL UNITY, designed to not just share Christ,
but to also bring solid Christian teaching to the emerging
church.
Shekhar joined a group to pray about a
Nepali Language Recording Project. We met him
personally in 1997 in Kathmandu, and he became an
important addition to the Project Committee. Shekhar
became a good friend.
It would be impossible for us to compile a
list of all those who have heard the message of Christ
through the unselfish ministry of Shekhar Paudel. The
reports we can share with you monthly only touch the
surface of what really is being accomplished. But it is
through the vision of such men
and women that
God’s work surges forward throughout Nepal. With the help
of Shekhar and our dedicated Nepali Committee, the 5
Nepali Language videos today minister all over this
land, bringing the Light of the Gospel into the heart of
one of the world’s darkest Kingdoms.
HELP US HELP
CHRISTIAN ORGANIZATIONS AND CHURCHES
In an effort to build our
international ministry, InterComm is continuing to develop
new initiatives. We will introduce these initiatives to
you through the TORCH Newsletter and also by mail.
Recently,
InterComm launched its new Internet Advancement division
which focuses on design, development and maintenance of
internet websites for Christian churches and businesses.
It is our belief that for too long, the broadcasting of
Christianity on the internet has been jeopardized by the
high cost of website development. InterComm’s focus is to
provide top quality, affordable web enabling and
maintenance to those Christian organizations that
previously could not afford it.
In the past
month alone, the Lord has blessed us with 3 new website
clients. Please click here (website
design) to view our website development information or
portfolio) to view a portfolio of some of our newest
clients.. Your referral of our website services to
Christian churches, organizations and businesses in your
area would be greatly appreciated! Please don’t delay
- your assistance is needed today!
MOST POWERFUL
TOOLS
Evangelist
Clement Matanda of Ndola, Zambia
writes:
"Calvary
greetings to you servants of the most high God, your
letter brought me great joy. I was very much humbled by
your willingness to send me one of the most powerful tools
to use in the Kingdom of God, the Torch Kit. Your words
proved to me I have really found co-laborers in the
Kingdom of our Heavenly Father. Please continue in that
same spirit so that God may also continue opening His
gates of Heaven and pouring out more blessing. I cannot
wait to receive this gift. Thank you so very much for your
offer and God bless you."
IMPORTANT ASSET
Evangelist
Alfred KK Sayila of Livingston, Zambia writes:
"I wish that
God should have blessed you beyond measure so that you
could support my work financially, but all the same, the
Torch Kits are such an important asset. Perhaps even more
than cash, as we are winning souls for Christ with them."
STREET MINISTRY
Rev Isaac
Nsereko of Masaka, Uganda writes:
"If it had not
been for the tools you gave me, I don’t know how I would
console the 600 orphans and street children I care for
especially during this famine season. I, too, suffered on
the streets during my childhood. Now all of my life is
given to assist suffering people. The Torch Kits make it
much easier for me. Whenever I meet these people, I just
open my Kit, and they come and watch. Then I stop, give
counsel, and preach. Here I am known as the Man from
InterComm. With this Kit I have ministered in Uganda,
Tanzania, Rwanda, Kenya, and
Zaire. You need to visit me in order to see all that the
Kit has done. Pray for me, as I continue doing this work
and pray that we might find more people to come and help
us work with these orphans."
NOT A SMALL
MINISTRY
Evangelist Emmanuel Nebeolisa of Lafia, Nigeria writes:
"It will interest you to know that the Torch Kit dramas
really move people in the villages. I want to assure you
sir that your ministry is not a small ministry, but that
we are reaching out to even remote villages through the
Torch Kit. Only eternity will tell the bigness of this
work. It is a thing of joy to me when I see what God is
doing in our rural churches. How people are being blessed
through the Torch Kit and how of a truth audiovisuals are
an important strategy in our model for evangelism."
HEARTBEAT
by Ken Anderson
Our dear
friend, medical doctor, Geoffrey Lehman, made our frequent
trips to India much more entertaining and enjoyable.
Geoffrey also introduced us to many wonderful
missionaries, serving the Lord, in northern India. Charles
and Anita Warren were TEAM missionaries, with an anointed
know-
how of winning
the trust and friendship of people whose culture had
previously been alien to them. Doris and I visited their
mud-walled cottage, which stood on a foothill, looking
down toward a mission hill station at Mussoorie, and up
toward the towering Himalayas. Anita especially enjoyed
the opportunity to play hostess.
Just prior to
our arrival she had received a special cheddar cheese,
lovingly sent from her home church missions committee.
Although far and beyond her favorite gift from home, Anita
shared her cheddar joyously with anyone who sat at her
table. She also liked to share the popular beverage Tang
at her meals. Tang was the instant orange juice mix, made
famous through the early space program. Instead of cold
Tang, however, she served hot Tang.
Having just
arrived from the USA where cheddar is readily available,
we encouraged Anita to keep this delicacy for her own
enjoyment. "You are like family members to us," she
responded. "Surely, you don’t blame me for serving some
of my best things to such dear friends."
I enjoyed many
fascinating experiences over the years, visiting the
Warren home. For example, one day I noticed their daughter
on the front steps of their house with an Indian friend on
one side and another missionary child on the other side.
In high excitement their daughter was explaining something
to both of them. When she turned toward the Indian child,
she rattled off her story in Urdu, the language of
the hill people. Then as she turned to the missionary
friend, she spoke in English. Back and forth she
talked, first one, then the other, in English and
in Urdu, over and over. It’s no surprise, then,
that this experience of love and concern for others led
their daughter, Beth Ann, to become a highly respected
missionary nurse to India.
Another fond
memory was a Thanksgiving meal at the Warren home. Anita
was very
apologetic, as she had not
been able to secure any turkey meat. Chickens were
available in abundance, but seemed too common place.
Besides, she had overheard me mention once that I was not
too fond of chicken. So what did she serve? Spam Loaf
embellished with pineapple sauce, and, of course, cheddar
cheese on the holiday pie.
