Evangelist Nanjappa Mallanna
was already deeply entrenched in village ministry when we met
him in 2002. With his wife, Ruby, and sons, Sam, David, and Jona,
they live in Bagepalli, about 100 kilometers from Banglore,
India, where InterComm recorded the Kannada Language in 2005.
Evangelist Mallanna had established a systematic approach to
presenting Christ to the 48% illiterate souls living in villages
throughout this hilly region of India. He himself is personally
fluent in 5 major languages.
"New Converts from
InterComm Media Ministry."
By 1980 he had begun
integrating audio cassette tapes into his outreach vision and
“the results were very good. People like A.V. (Audiovisuals)
better than literature in my area.” Following his evangelism
training at the Haggai Institute, Evangelist Mallanna became a
committed AVangelist. He was able to secure a Video Player, but
also hoped to master other media tools for his work.
Understanding the value of low tech media for village ministry,
he and his team of 10 tribal students, who he was training in
evangelism techniques, began planning visual flip charts to
launch ministry in as many new locales as possible over the next
2 years. Yes, he needed videos, a Torch Kit, as well as our
training video and booklet for the Overhead Projector. He didn’t
yet know our Torch Kit could also be used to project his
collection of slides, which he had never been able to use.
Our package cleared Customs by
June 25, 2002, and he quickly planned his first use of the Torch
Kit by June 29. We were excited for him. He had written, “I live
among lions that roar now and then when I say Jesus is THE GOD.
I trust these tools will help me build new believers.” His lions
comment refers to other religious leaders he would be facing in
opposition to his ministry.
As always, we asked people to pray. You did, and God began to
work. His first Torch Kit Report covered showings to over 3900
souls with 334 seeking Christ, but not without opposition. One
of his team was attacked by radicals, who also destroyed some
other media tools. Was he discouraged? Probably somewhat, but he
wrote, “I just baptized 34 new converts of which 20 are from our
new AVangelism Outreaches. We have started a new worship group
with them.”
Foreign correspondence runs hot, then cold. About a year later
he finally caught up and shared “by the grace of God we reached
over 10,000 people in the last 8 months. I have also trained 10
more men and 3 women to help. Satan is making much dirty media
available in high tech these days, but praise God He is still
using me through the tools you have equipped me for Media
Evangelism.”

"Baptism - A
Dangerous Public Display of Faith"
In 2005, he began using the
videos more in Home Evangelism. 23 new house churches were
launched. “By the grace of God and in spite of opposition, my
God, who I serve, is yet faithful in our ministry. Recently we
have trained over 100 pastors, 42 Evangelists, and 10 more women
to continue this vision.”
We have just now shipped him the 6 Kannada and 6 Telugu Language
videos. Imagine how God will bless once these tools begin
ministry under his supervision. From his sporadic reports we
know that at least 263 showings have taken place before over
35,000 souls with at least 2,000 seeking Christ. May God bless
you, as you pray for Evangelist Mallanna and as you also help us
here at InterComm to ever-expand this ministry of Media
Equipping around the world.
CZECH IT
OUT
Mr Petr Chlouba from the Rosa Ministry in the Czech Republic
recently contacted us with wonderful news, regarding Czech
Language versions of 2 of our films. “We have now duplicated and
sold 260 copies of PILGRIM’S PROGRESS and 160 copies of HUDSON
TAYLOR. Perhaps it is not so much, but thanks be to God for it.”
Please pray that God will richly anoint these 420 videos for His
Kingdom’s sake in this former Communist Eastern European
country.
COMPLETELY CHANGED
Burmese Language Video Project Director, Rev. Myint Nwe,
reported by letter “the Kayin, Mon, and Burmese villages 16
kilometers from the Myanmar/Thai 3 Pagoda Border Pass on the
Thai side all understand the Burmese Language. This has been an
unreached area. It is very hard to go there. We announced the
video and Torch Kit showings and many people came. Most of them
were non-believers. We showed 5 Burmese videos and Torch Kit
stories, and this was the first time that they had ever seen
Christian media before. During these showings some of the people
began to weep. Some of them noticed in their hearts a change
taking place. 39 people committed to accept Jesus as their
personal Savior. There was only 1 area pastor, and I left these
people for him to follow up, teaching the salvation courses so
that they will understand more clearly. 1 old man and woman told
me that they had heard about the Christian message in Myanmar
before, but they didn’t understand it. This time when they saw
PILGRIM’S PROGRESS on video and the Filmstrip, UNFINISHED STORY,
it shook their hearts. It caused them to quite clearly
understand better than before. The local pastor amazingly
praised God, because these people were very strong hearted
non-believers until they saw the InterComm audiovisual ministry
tools in the Burmese Language. Please praise God with us.”
The videos, placed in the Burmese Language in 1996 continue to
bear fruit as God’s servant, Mynt Nwe takes them to the most
remote corners of his country.
MOST DIFFICULT
TASK
Sister Esther Devadoss from Secunderabad, India wrote:
“Thank you much for your prayers and your loving and encouraging
letter. Brother I am sorry for being silent. I have got much to
write about the ministry and how the Filmstrips are very useful
in preaching the Gospel to the unlearned and totally backward
people. Recently I showed the Filmstrip, THE LIVING BOOK, to 150
children at a VBS ministry. 1 young boy later testified that he
had learned how to forgive his enemies, and this challenged many
in the group. Recently about 40 of us went on a Gospel outreach
to the Hilly people. It took more than 7 ½ hours of walking to
climb through the hills and reach the villages of Tadapala, Doli,
and Chalamala. In each village there were 13 to 14 houses.
Climbing to these villages was a most difficult task, but now we
are rejoicing. We showed the Filmstrip story, JUMA, which was
very appropriate. We received a very good response. Many said
that they would believe in Jesus. These villages are surrounded
by evil powers, but we sensed God’s mighty power behind and
before us. So please pray for the villages mentioned above, and
also pray for us.”
YEAR-END
REALITIES
InterComm is currently operating at a monthly deficit of
approximately $7,000 to $10,000. We simply are not growing our
friends and new fellowship partners quickly enough to meet the
needs that we are facing around the world. What can you do to
make a difference?
Have you introduced InterComm to your church and asked your
Missions Department to consider partnering with this exciting
ministry, or if already involved, increasing that participation?
Have you told your giving family and friends that you
participate in a ministry that God is using in a most remarkable
way?
Have you considered inviting friends and associates in for an
evening of informal fact sharing so that they might also learn
what InterComm offers a discerning giver and the world they wish
to reach?
Our Philippines Project yet requires more than $50,000 to
complete its budget. We always have a need for Torch Kits at a
base cost of $300 each. Keeping up with new technologies
requires re-mastering of all of our available titles into newer
disk formats so that the world we serve will always have the
newest technology necessary. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. WE NEED
YOUR PARTICIPATION.
Finally, is it time for you to re-evaluate your monthly and
yearly contribution? Could you give more in 2007 to help us
succeed in this unique world outreach. Thank you for your
prayerful consideration.
HEARTBEAT
by Ken Anderson
(For a period of time, InterComm will be sharing Heartbeats from
the Ken Anderson Films era.)
“I have fought the good fight. I have kept the faith.” To me
Paul wasn’t talking about doctrinal dispute. Instead he stood
victorious looking back across years of conflict, years of
struggle, as I understand it, against the wiles of the devil. As
never before in the history of the church, Christians face those
wiles, and that’s exactly what they are - the ploys of satan so
clever we many times settle for the comforts of complacency
instead of the wounds of spiritual warfare. I have become
convinced, for myself at least, that struggle is a vital part of
victory. In my reading of the Scripture, Paul found it so.
